Marcel Beattig
Bow Arts Trust
Dear Marcel,
We the artists at Warren House would like to propose to take on flat number 38, which has been voided and is held by Poplar Harca, in order to facilitate a multitude of activities.
Whilst we are aware that there are several logistical constraints that would need to be overcome we would like to open a dialogue in order to find out what is possible.
The Live/work artists at Warren House had a meeting where different ideas were put forward and possible hurdles identified. The proposed management system was a 12 month rota system for proposing and booking approved projects.
Amongst the most popular ideas suggested were;
A ‘clubhouse’ for the artists to meet and develop ideas to collaborate and interact
Gallery
Photo studio
Workshop venue
Library
Community activities venue
Swap shop
Workshop space for actors and non-actors
The Hurdles that were identified were;
Electricity
Water and ablutions (toilet)
Insurance (public liability) and CRB Certification to work with kids
Budget for ‘basic’ making good of space
We feel that the ‘clubhouse’ would firstly help the artists in Warren House to formalise a creative community through a shared multi-use space. Furthermore It provides a space to help all of the residents become involved on equal terms in a designated space.
Whilst we are enthusiastic and willing to do most of the work we look to Bow Arts Trust for possible administrative support and advice, and help for raising funds or support-in-kind for the above mentioned hurdles.
We would like to propose a meeting with BAT as soon as possible to discuss what course of action is required in order to facilitate our ambitions. We were hoping to be able to have something ready for the Open studios event this year.
We look forward to hearing back from you.
